Sleepless in Thorn Gap

July 29th, 2010

Li’s not slept well this week, it’s just been a little overwhelming plus she’s getting large amounts of sugar at school.  Here’s a few morning pictures.   She had to have glasses like her Nana with the flip up shade.  Girl is looking good in her new shades

Li has a new baby and for the first time she seems to love a baby doll.  This doll belonged to her great Aunt Virginia.  The night we left for China, Virginia’s health failed and so she never got to see us come home.  She was so happy for us and that Li was finally joining our family.  On Saturday her daughter gave us some of her Mother’s treasures including two sweet dolls.  Li loves them.  In one picture she’s rocking the baby like I do her, by bending my knees and swaying back and forth.   She’s a very sweet Mommy.

Happy Fourth of July!

July 4th, 2010

We celebrated the 4th at home doing a little of everything there was to do outside but our favorite part of the day was eating fresh corn.   Back in the spring Li helped plant the garden corn, well she was in the garden when it was planted.  Today we pulled the first ears and as you can see it was a big hit.

She’s our All American Girl!

20 Months Old

June 26th, 2010

This week Li turned 20 months old.  It’s also our last week of time off together, I go back to work Monday.   Years ago I heard Nanci Griffith sing a song which has been on my mind for the last two weeks, I guess because we are moving on to the next phase.

Turn Around

Where are you goin’ my little one, little one?
Where are you goin’ my baby my own?
Turn around and you’re two
Turn around and you’re four
Turn around and you’re a young girl
Going out the door

Chorus
Turn around
Turn around
Turn around and you’re a young girl
Going out of the door
(Turn around and you’re a young wife
With babes of your own)

Where are you goin’ my little one, little one?
Little dirndles and petticoats, where have you gone?
Turn around and you’re tiny
Turn around and you’re grown
Turn around and you’re a young wife
With babes of your own

Chorus

Where are you goin’ my little one, little one?
Where are you goin’ my baby my own.

Of course when I turn around I see the “Nutty Professor”!

Re-Adoption Day

May 21st, 2010

We officially became a family while in China on March 9th.  This is recognized by China, the U.S. and Tennessee (but not every state).  To make things easier for obtaining vital records, eliminating any potential legal concerns and to have our names listed as her parents on her U.S. birth certificate, we chose to re-adopt.  Now she is recognized in every state as our little girl.   OK, so one more hurtle has been jumped and hopefully we can rest for a while because we have our first birthday party to go to tomorrow!  Our friend Sam turns 2!

Getting ready for our big day.  Notice the cute dress with the flag emblem?  It’s the one Martha made special for us.  We didn’t take it the day we took our US Citizenship oath in China, I was afraid it might get lost in the luggage, but it’s perfect for today.

Pictures with Judge Thurman and Bryant Dunaway who made it all official!  See the little flag on the dress, so cute.

And now we are officially “The Hassler Family” in every state.  How cool is that!

New Shoes

April 27th, 2010

New shoes from Nana, I think.   We were playing dress up but only made it as far as the shoes.

Just being Li

Riding in the wagon with Jayden.   They were having a good time though you can’t tell by the looks on their faces.

Helping with the dishes

Loving bath tub time!

Riding her Mom’s Tricycle

April 12th, 2010

Li’s accomplishment today, getting on the tricycle all by herself.   Her little legs are to short for the pedals so for now I’m still pushing.  I’ve owned this tricycle since my 3rd birthday (Grandmother sent a correction, the tricycle is from the 2nd birthday!), yes almost an antique!  My brother sanded and repainted it,  now it’s just like new.   For those of you born in the age of plastic, this one is steel and sporting all original parts.
