Flat Sisters Update!

March 7th, 2010

We must update everyone on the whereabouts of Flat Abby and Flat Savy.  Here they are on the bus to see Tiananmen Square.

Here they are inside the Forbidden City touring the Imperial Gardens.

Here they are taking a break after climbing the Great Wall. You can now be heroes!
(Chairman Mao proclaimed that any person who wanted to be a real hero must climb the Great Wall, which has inspired many ambitious visitors.)

Flat Abby and Flat Savy

March 5th, 2010

We couldn’t talk Li’s cousin’s Abby-13 & Savannah (a.k.a. Savy)-11, into coming to China with us, they insisted on going to school…NOT!  So together we figured out a way to do both, go to school and go to China…. meet Flat Abby and Flat Savy!   Flat Abby and Flat Savy were at the door, 3:30 am on Thursday, at Nana’s house, packed and ready to go to the airport.  We were there by 4:00 and a good thing to since Continental began checking us in promptly at 4:45!

Flat Abby and Flat Savy take a break in the terminal while we wait for the plane to begin our first leg of the journey.   We had a long plane ride, started at 6:00 am in US, 3/4 and ended at 3:30 pm 3/5 in Beijing and that’s about all I want to remember of it.  Sorry girls I didn’t get you out, we were lucky to stand up every once in a while.  But believe me you were tired when we got to the hotel.  It’s the first time I’ve ever chosen sleep over chocolate! and the same goes for you.  We were all Flat by the time we got here.

And guess what your Uncle Trey did?  He blew the fuse to the room!  All the lights went out; blue sparks flew out of the wall socket and acrid fumes filled the room where he’d plugged in an adapter!  OK, now think about him trying to explain this to the young lady at the front desk!  It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.   And on the way down to the lobby, he was in shorts and a tee-shirt because we were really tiring to go to bed when he blew up the room and a young Chinese lady looked him up and down and asked “Aren’t you cold?”  Some things get lost in translation.

We go to the Great Wall today so look for pictures later.
